Glazing and Colouring

The Art of colouring pottery

Ceramic glazes are a captivating blend of artistry and science, transforming simple clay into stunning works of art.

The beauty of each pottery piece is brought to life as each glaze interacts with the clay and kiln in unique ways, producing surfaces that can be glossy, matte, or textured.

This intricate process gives ceramic pieces a depth and beauty that are truly one-of-a-kind, enhancing both their visual appeal and durability.

Underglazes can be applied to the clay forms before the first firing, allowing for precise detailing and vibrant color that remains stable during the firing process. These underglazes offer a wide range of hues and effects, providing the opportunity to add depth and personality to each piece.

After the bisque firing, the pottery can be further enhanced with glazes, which may add color and/or create a glossy or matte finish, sealing and protecting the surface.

I use a variety of commercially available glazes known for their consistent quality and stunning results but I also create custom glazes using individual compounds and chemicals. This allows me to develop unique colors and textures that are exclusive to my work, adding an extra layer of individuality to each piece.

Whether using vibrant underglazes, commercially available glazes, or my own handcrafted formulas, each piece is a canvas where creativity meets craftsmanship, resulting in pottery that is both beautiful and functional.
