Artizen Artisan is committed to operating in a manner that minimises our impact on the environment. We are committed to continually monitoring our environmental and pollution credentials to ensure that we not only comply with all relevant legislation but question our significant operational aspects as well.

Waste management strategies are already in place to maximise re-use, recycling and recovery where possible. To ensure energy efficiency we use the latest in latest heating control, LED lighting, electric vehicles and one of the most economical kilns on the market.

Sustainability  

Our clay products are made by hand in West Halton, England, using traditional workmanship methods.

We proudly partner with a local supplier, ensuring that our materials are sourced close to home. This minimises the environmental impact associated with transportation, a crucial step in our commitment to sustainability. By optimizing the journeys for our materials, we reduce carbon emissions and support our local economy, fostering a sense of community.

Our processes are designed to be as sustainable and efficient as possible. We have implemented various strategies to reduce waste and maximize the reuse of raw materials. For instance, during the casting process—where ware is shaped using molds and slip—any excess slip is not wasted. Instead, it is carefully recycled for reuse in the next casting cycle. This practice not only conserves resources but also enhances our efficiency in production.

Waste generated from forming, fettling, and sponging is diligently collected and repurposed as slip, ensuring that as little material as possible goes to waste. Larger waste items are also efficiently managed; they are sorted into individual containers based on clay type and are re-formed back into usable clay. This closed-loop system underscores our dedication to minimising waste and promoting a circular economy within our production processes.

Water is another vital resource in our operations, and we are committed to using it as sparingly as possible. To further our sustainability efforts, the water used in various processes is recycled. This not only conserves a precious resource but also reduces the environmental footprint of our manufacturing practices. By employing responsible water management, we strive to ensure that our production methods leave a minimal impact on the environment.
