Clay casting

Making cast moulds allows me to reproduce unusual or amusing designs with precision and consistency.

This technique not only enhances my creative capabilities, but it also provides a level of control over the final product that is difficult to achieve through other methods and allows me to make a series of items, such as “Maurice”.

An original model is used to create a mould using high-quality casting plaster. The plaster is poured over the model, capturing every nuance of the design. Once the plaster has set, the original model is removed, leaving a negative space that can be filled with clay or slip to produce multiple copies of the piece.

In addition to traditional sculpting methods, I also embrace modern technology to expand the possibilities of my work. Using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, I can design unique characters and forms that are difficult to achieve by hand alone. These designs are then brought to life with my 3D printers, which produce highly detailed models in a variety of materials. Once printed, these models can be used to create casting moulds.

By combining these techniques, I’m able to explore new creative avenues and produce pieces that are both innovative and rooted in tradition. The use of CAD and 3D printing allows me to experiment with complex shapes and intricate details that can be challenging to achieve through conventional methods. These designs are then transformed into durable plaster moulds, enabling me to cast each piece with consistency while still maintaining the individuality and artistic quality of handmade work.

Each cast piece is carefully crafted and decorated, reflecting the dedication and skill that goes into every step of the process. Whether it’s a character brought to life through 3D printing or a more traditional design sculpted by hand, the result is a unique and expressive work of art that carries the essence of both modern and traditional craftsmanship.

Maurice is a cute fat cat that has a unique, larger than life personality.

Maurice is made by casting the main character in a plaster mould. A unique tail is designed and added later by hand, together with a diverse range of accessories, colours and sometimes, make up.
